When you typically walk into an office space, you have a pretty good idea of what you are going to see; rows of cubicle, computers, printers, and a little bit of personality scattered throughout. When you walk into GannettLocal’s offices, you never know what you are going to find.

Not only do we love to infuse our work spaces with our own personality, as evidenced by these pictures…. But you may also see things we have received from clients and the small little touches that convey our personality, typically in a fun, and sometimes geeky fashion.

A quick trip down “Social Row” reveals that in addition to family photos, the cubicles are decorated with dolls, books, and some fun, geeky posters reminding us of some common writing mistakes that we might come across as well as the rules to Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock (which everyone needs to be reminded of now and then!)

Not only do these small touches showcase our personality, but also contribute to the over arching culture of GannettLocal. We are not a company that demands everyone to march to the same corporate drummer, but instead celebrates the individuality in each of us.

In the spirit of the GannettLocal Culture, your challenge, should you chose to accept it, is to figure out whose cubicle each of the items pictured today are found!

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” Ferris Bueller

If life moves quickly in the movies, it moves at light speed in the Social Media World. This is extremely important you to understand, if you are thinking about adding Social Media profiles for your company. If you aren’t prepared, opportunities will pass you by in the blink of an eye.

In 60 seconds over 98,000 tweets will be sent and 695,000 Facebook statuses will be updated. I know that some of those will be people that are talking about what they had for breakfast, but how many of those might be people using location-based apps, like Foursquare or Gowalla to check into businesses? More than a few are probably asking for recommendations on anything from Date Night Recommendations to Carpet Cleaning. And of course you will have a ton of people complaining. (more…)

Try Taking it Offline

In social media, we have a bad habit of focusing most of our time on our online communities – making sure that people are interacting, quality content is being published regularly, that we are gaining new followers and our communities are thriving. It’s time to mix it up a little and get your community together in real life.

Scheduling a meet up (or, in case of your twitter followers, a “Tweet-Up”) is one way of bringing your online community together offline. Not only does it give people a chance to meet in person, and get out from behind the computer, but it can also strengthen your community by giving your community members a chance to know each other a little bit better, and even help your community grow. A successful meet-up will help your community build credibility, and possibly gain lead generation, increased sales, and media exposure.

The following steps should help make planning your Meet Up a breeze. (more…)
